Title

Bowen Island Sensitive Ecosystem Map - 2005

Description

Sensitive ecosystem mapping of Bowen Island showing terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, rare and important habitats, with detailed legend and classification system based on 2005 aerial photography. The map identifies sensitive ecosystems that are fragile, rare, or ecologically important for biodiversity.

Key Findings

Identifies and maps sensitive ecosystems on Bowen Island including mature forests, old forests, woodlands, herbaceous areas, wetlands, riparian zones, cliffs, and freshwater ecosystems. These ecosystems are classified as sensitive due to their fragility, rarity, or high biodiversity values. The mapping supports informed land use decisions for ecosystem conservation.

Methodology

Mapping methods based on Resource Information Standards Committee (RISC) Standard for Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping (TEM) in BC. Themed from TEM data using RISC Standard for Mapping Ecosystems at Risk in BC. Field survey protocols followed Describing Terrestrial Ecosystems in the Field (RISC 1998).
