Key Findings
This study provides a comprehensive recreation inventory and preliminary landscape assessment for four drainage areas in the Chilliwack Forest District. Key findings include identification of recreation features, visual landscape sensitivity ratings, and public involvement results. The study covers 31 1:20, 000 mapsheets with partial coverage in 24 sheets, totaling approximately 105, 000 hectares. Major recreational features include Bowen Island's diverse recreational opportunities, Harrison area's high landscape significance, and extensive trail networks. Public response indicated strong support for maintaining natural settings and improving trail networks while addressing environmental concerns.
Methodology
The recreation inventory follows B.C. Forest Service methodology mapping biophysical features according to recreational interest. Field work consisted of aerial photography analysis, ground field work, helicopter time for viewline panoramas, and public involvement through questionnaires distributed to recreation groups and individuals.
