Key Findings
The document recommends that at least half of any development property proposed for rezoning be maintained in its natural state to protect biodiversity. It calls for incorporation of biodiversity values mapping and groundwater recharge potential mapping into planning approvals. A comprehensive Freshwater Protection Strategy is proposed to protect both groundwater and surface water resources. For Grafton Lake watershed, the most important water supply area, the document recommends designation as a development permit area with water quality monitoring initiatives to track pollutant trends and inform solution-oriented approaches through education, best practices, and stewardship.
